Dementia Stages
There are 3 dementia stages with a lot of overlap-
Mild Alzheimer’s dementia where there is short term memory loss but the person can still function fairly independently may be with a little help.
Moderate Alzheimer’s dementia means the person is quite confused and impaired and needs a fair degree of help during the day for every day basic tasks, prompts and direction. They may have behavioural complications such as agitation, wandering, need help for personal care, meals, shopping, paying bills.
Advanced Alzheimer’s dementia or severe dementia. These people need 24 hour care. They may still be mobile but have severe confusion and commonly behavioural complications such as agitation, aggression, wandering, paranoid delusions, hallucinations, incontinence, impaired communication, language and sleep disturbance.
