Physical signs of malnutrition in older adults.
Common physical signs of malnutrition in the elderly include-
underweight.
sarcopenia- complex metabolic syndrome of loss of muscle bulk and loss of general function with severe weight loss.
ankle swelling.
leg ulcers.
pressure sores on sacrum and heels.
infections.
muscle weakness and wasting.
weak hand grip strength.
postural dizziness.
low standing blood pressure.
poor balance and mobility.
difficulty transferring from sitting to standing without using upper limbs.
worsening confusion/delirium.
difficulty swallowing.
